We walked past 9 UNESCO World Heritage monuments, most of which we couldn't see because they were covered in thick lush vegetation... but hey, they were there. Walked along trails lined for miles with black berry bushes, MJ eating black berries all along the way. We walked through beautiful forest trails, over interesting bridges, in perfect temperature...
...and then we walked to Monistrol-d'Allier!
Did we mention that Monistrol-d'Allier was at the BOTTOM of the Gorges de L'Allier?
The Gorges de L'Allier is the equivalent of the vastness of the Grand Canyon and the thick mountain vegetation of Yosemite. It was spectacular!! But it came with a price... blisters, sore toes, legs and starvation. It was slow slow going but at the bottom we crossed into Monistrol over Gustave Eiffel's bridge. We met some nice Canadians who gave us some foot care tips, had fair nights sleep in a bed buggy room, Kristina managed to disable a big one, and in the morning after two large bowls of coffee, we oohed and ahhhed over the beautiful canyon from the back seat of a taxi as we rode out of the Gorges de L'Allier. The walk down into the gorge was enough to about kill us... We weren't going to take any chances!
We were dropped off at Le Vernet and we walked to La Clauze, about 14 miles! In La Clauze we stumbled across a great Gîte. 'Twas a wonderful day!
